Cylindrical Capacitive Sensors

Threaded-body cylindrical capacitive sensors with standard sensing range.

Cylindrical capacitive sensors use the same threaded body format (M12/M18/M30) as inductive sensors, but can also detect non-metal objects such as glass, wood and plastic. Omron’s E2K-X series and Telemecanique’s XT2/XT5 series cylindrical capacitive sensors are used for general-purpose object detection; Omron’s E2K-C series offers an adjustable, long-range option in the same housing format. Note: Panasonic’s FA sensor catalog has no dedicated capacitive sensor line, so this card lists only Omron and Telemecanique products. Housing diameter and sensing distance are chosen to match the application.

Telemecanique’s XT capacitive sensor family (formerly OsiSense XT) detects any material without contact up to 20 mm, regardless of conductivity — metals, minerals, wood, plastic, glass, cardboard, leather, ceramic and fluids. Two current series come in cylindrical housings: the plastic-bodied, double-insulated XT2 (M18 Sn 8 mm, M30 Sn 15 mm; 12-24 V DC PNP NC+NO 4-wire or 24-240 V AC 2-wire versions, non-flush mounting, IP67) and the nickel-plated brass XT5 (M18 Sn 5 mm, M30 Sn 10 mm; 24 V DC 3/4-wire NO or NC+NO, flush mounting, IP65/IP67). The Ø32 plain-body brass XT1 (Sn 15 mm, 24-240 V AC 2-wire, flush) is also in the current catalogue, while the XT1 M18/M30 models are discontinued. Connection is by 2 m cable or M12 connector.
