The Omron E6C3-A is an absolute rotary encoder with a 50 mm diameter housing and an 8 mm shaft. Gray code models provide 256, 360, 720 or 1,024 positions per rotation (up to 10-bit); binary (32, 40, 256) and BCD (6, 8, 12) models are also listed in the datasheet. Outputs are NPN or PNP open collector on a 12–24 V DC supply. The construction with sealed bearings is rated IP65 and oil-proof, and according to Omron it enables optimum angle control in combination with a PLC.
Connector models E6C3-AG5C-C with 256, 360 or 720 resolution are used for connection to the H8PS cam positioner and can be extended with E69-DF extension cables. The shaft accepts 80 N radial and 50 N thrust load; the maximum permissible speed is 5,000 r/min and current consumption is 70 mA max. The case and main unit are aluminium. The standard cable length is 1 m; for 360 and 720 resolution, 2 m cables are standard in stock.
