EX-31 is the thru-beam model of Panasonic’s EX-30 Ver.2 threaded miniature photoelectric sensor series. The emitter and receiver, with threaded nickel-plated die-cast zinc bodies, are mounted facing each other; they detect opaque objects of Ø2 mm or more that completely interrupt the red LED beam at a range of 500 mm. Repeatability perpendicular to the sensing axis is 0.05 mm or less.
Output operation is fixed by part number: EX-31A is Light-ON and EX-31B is Dark-ON; these NPN open-collector models have PNP counterparts with the -PN suffix (EX-31A-PN, EX-31B-PN). Output current is 50 mA maximum and response time is 0.5 ms or less; there is no sensitivity adjuster. It has IP67 protection and pollution degree 3 (industrial environment), comes with a 2 m cable, and is supplied with two nuts and two toothed lock washers.
