The Panasonic BSF4-AH80 houses a Type 4 safety light curtain to IEC 61496 in a flameproof enclosure. It is classified as Ex db [op is] IIB T6 Gb in Europe, Class I, Zone 1 AEx d IIB T6 in the USA, Ex d IIB T6 in Canada and Japan, and Ex db IIB T6 Gb in China. It is used in Zone 1 and Zone 2 locations where IIB T6 gases or vapours may be present. A single unit provides a protective height of 1,595 mm with 80 beams; beam pitch is 20 mm, the minimum sensing object ø30 mm and the operating range 0.3–6 m.
The 2 OSSD outputs are semiconductor (PNP equivalent) with a maximum source current of 200 mA; OFF response is 11 ms or less and ON response 70 ms or less. It meets Category 4, PL e to ISO 13849-1:2015 and SIL 3 to IEC 61508. Double scanning and retry processing reduce extraneous light interference, and no interference prevention line is required. The enclosure is aluminium with a glass window and comes with a 20 m shielded cable. Emitter and receiver weigh approx. 44 kg in total. Since December 2021 the order part number is UBSF4AH80V2.
