HIKROBOT Smart Camera Selection Tool
Select the inspections, enter the working distance and target area, and instantly see the HIKROBOT smart cameras that meet your needs, their field of view and resolution per pixel.
How does it work?
Smart cameras combine imaging, processing and communication in one housing and make decisions on the line without a PC. The right model is chosen according to the inspection and the mounting geometry.
Inspection requirement
Basic inspections such as presence/absence, counting, dimension and colour checks are available in all series; advanced functions such as positioning, deep learning and defect detection are available only in the higher series. The tool lists the series that support all of the selected inspections.
Field of view
For models with a built-in lens, field of view = sensor size × (working distance − focal length) ÷ focal length. The target must fit entirely in this area; among models that see the same target, the one with the smaller area per pixel captures more detail.
External-lens models
For C-mount models the focal length ≈ working distance × magnification ÷ (1 + magnification); you can choose a suitable lens with the lens selection and field of view calculator. See smart cameras and vision sensors for all models.
Frequently asked questions
What is a smart camera and what is it used for?
A smart camera combines imaging, processing and communication in one housing and makes decisions on the line without a PC. In HIKROBOT smart cameras, basic inspections such as presence/absence, counting, dimension and colour checks are available in all series. Advanced functions such as positioning, deep learning and defect detection are available only in the higher series.
How do I use the smart camera selection tool?
First select the inspections your application requires; you can select more than one. Then enter the working distance and the width and height of the target. The tool lists the models that support all selected inspections and see the whole target at this distance, finest resolution per pixel first. In the by-model mode, it calculates the field of view of the model you select.
How is the field of view of a smart camera with a built-in lens calculated?
For built-in lens models, field of view = sensor size × (working distance − focal length) ÷ focal length. The target must fit completely in this area. Among models that see the same target, the one with the smaller area per pixel captures more detail. The smallest detail should usually cover at least 3–4 pixels.
How do I choose a lens for a C-mount smart camera, and is the result final?
For C-mount models, the required focal length ≈ working distance × magnification ÷ (1 + magnification); you can pick a suitable lens with the lens selection calculator. The inspection–series mapping comes from HIKROBOT’s selection tool; final suitability is confirmed by an application test. FST can help you choose the right model with your sample part.
