Liquid-Level Sensing — Capacitive Sensors

Capacitive sensors that detect liquid level from outside a container wall, without touching the liquid.

A capacitive sensor’s ability to measure dielectric differences makes it especially effective for liquid-level sensing — mounted on the outside of a container or tank, it can monitor level without contacting the liquid inside. Omron’s side-sensing E2K-L series liquid-level sensors are used in filling lines and tank monitoring. Note: Panasonic has no capacitive sensor line, and the Telemecanique catalogue has no dedicated liquid-level XT model — the XT family’s plastic-bodied XT2 cylindrical sensors (M18 Sn 8 mm / M30 Sn 15 mm, double insulation, IP67) are general-purpose capacitive sensors that detect any material including fluids up to 20 mm, and are listed on the Cylindrical card. Sensing distance and container wall thickness are chosen to match the application.
