ATEX Certified Sensors and Switches for Hazardous Dust Locations

Combustible dust — flour, sugar, grain, wood, coal, metal powder, plastic granulate — forms explosive atmospheres in silos, mills, filters, conveyors and packaging lines. Equipment installed in these areas must be certified under the ATEX 2014/34/EU directive and the IEC 60079 series.

FST supplies the Telemecanique Sensors OsiSense hazardous dust location line: inductive proximity sensors, analog inductive sensors, limit switches and pressure switches, all certified for Zone 21 and Zone 22 with independent IEC-Ex and INERIS approval.

How to read the marking

II 2 DEquipment group II (surface industry), category 2, D = dust atmospheres
Ex tbProtection by enclosure (“t”), protection level b — suitable for Zone 21
IIICDust group IIIC — conductive dust, the most demanding class
T85°C / T90°CMaximum surface temperature of the enclosure
DbEquipment protection level (EPL) Db — high protection, Zone 21
Zone 21Explosive dust cloud likely to occur occasionally in normal operation
Zone 22Explosive dust cloud not likely, or only for a short period
Scope note. The products listed above are certified for dust atmospheres (Zone 21–22, Ex tb). They are not rated for explosive gas atmospheres (Zone 0/1/2, Ex ia / Ex db). If your application involves flammable gas or vapour, contact us and we will confirm the correct certified equipment before quoting.
